So far it was turning out to be a normal day at the hospital. Nothing out of the ordinary, just check ups, seeing patients who were in recovery, and anything else. Emma was the most loved doctor in the hospital, she was gentle and kind, and the children always loved to come back to see her. She loved what she did, but she missed working in the big hospital and working with her colleagues that she had befriended. It was time to put the past behind her and start a new life in this place.
She had just gotten done with seeing a patient who needed stitches, and she gently closed up the wound and put a bandage over the wound. " There you are Mr. Satchel, I'll be seeing you in a week or so to just take the stitches out. If you wish, you can take them out yourself. Just be careful when you do," she said and gave him a smile. The elderly gentleman thanked her and slowly sat up and grabbed his cane. She walked him out and watched him walk down the hall. She sighed after closing the door and went to sit down at her desk. She sank down into her chair and leaned forward and rested her arms on her desk. She looked at the picture of her and Alec and she gave a little smile.
She was about to rest her head when she heard some noises coming from the clinic area, loud noises, and she got up and walked into the large area. There were two men all banged up from probably fighting. They had fights every once in a while. Some people were getting a bad case of cabin fever. She instructed two of the nurses to take care of the men, and she took the security guard that was bleeding from his brow. " Looks like someone got a good swing at you," she said softly as a joke, and reached for some of her supplies.

His day had begun as it usually had since... He would slowly sit up, slide his legs over the edge of the bed and stare at the floor. That went on for a handful of minutes before he would remember why it was he was waking so early, slowly rise to his feet and shuffle his way to the kitchen area. Hot tea, one bagel smothered in cream cheese and a stick of gum was what his breakfast consisted of. He would then dress in uniform, go back to his bed to carefully inspect the other side for any signs of disturbance of slumber, then leave to impose upon one of the kind women in his bunker the task of watching his daughter. From there he would head to do his duty.
That was how his days almost always began, and he had become used to it. The quiet peacefulness that came with people still being too nervous to bother with each other much. But today...
Today was a chink in his armor.
The same nervousness that inspired peace also fathered more negative emotions and behaviors in the people, which led to his immediate presence at word of a confrontation. A small war broke out between two men and it was his job to diffuse the situation. It went as smooth as sandpaper, and he was subjected to a slight cut to his brow where fist broke flesh, some complimentary bruises and a none-too-please disposition. Matthias stared almost broodingly at the floor of the clinic, finding it much better to look at than those two idiots across from him lest he stride over there and plant an elbow into each of their faces. Again.
His resentful thoughts were broken when a doctor had come to take him. He had not intended to actually be treated, but found himself going along anyways. Might as well, since he was already in the clinic.
"Looks like someone got a good swing at you," she said, and he repressed the urge to give a heavy sigh. Instead, Matthias eyed her as she went about getting the necessary supplies to tend to his wound. As she did he took the time to study her. She was young for a doctor and that alone had him curious about her prowess; he was used to much older and seasoned medical veterans. But he'd not discriminate. She was a change and pretty, even, with long brown hair and dark blue eyes.
"Fool's luck," came his reply after a moment, lifting a hand to run it across the blood. A sting was his reward and he grimaced. "I'm sure this is superficial at most."
Well, he hoped it was superficial.

Emma looked at the two idiots that had probably started the fight, and she shook her head. It would only take one or two in the hive to start a swarm of angry bees. She had witnessed two herself, and would end up stitching someone's lip or mending a broken bone. Luckily here it was just being banged up. Thankfully they didn't break the sealed hatch that held the door to the silo in place, and to prevent any contaminants from getting in. That much she was thankful for. She told the nurses to take the two men to the other room, while she took care of the guard.
She gently placed her hand underneath his chin to lift it slightly so she could get a better look at the cut on his brow. She looked at it, and reached for some cotton balls, and cleaner. " I apologize, but this may sting a little. I just want to clean it so I can make a better prognosis of the damage. Though, in my opinion, it looks just like a bad scratch, she said softly, and gently applied the cotton ball to his eyebrow. " Well fools luck may have saved your life," she added and gave him a small smile.

"Mh. Du bist der doktor..." he muttered under his breath, more to himself than any actual response. Though the alcohol stung and irritated the cut, Matthias made no visible sign of discomfort. He only looked on through half-lidded eyes as she cleaned him up. In his opinion he should have just stuck a band-aid on it and called it a day. But, even still, he understood her precaution. What with the ever possible chance of infection heightened by the close quarters, Matthias was content to sit there for however long she wanted him to if it meant his health and physical well-being would be ensured and maintained.
He made a mental note to be more careful in the future.
"Ja? How's that?" he asked after a brief moment of silence. Fool's luck only benefited the fools, hence the name. He just hoped she wasn't implying that he was also subject to that luck. He didn't have much in the ways of shameless pride, but he liked to think himself more than capable of being categorized into a respectable social slot with a noticeable absence of fools and other such nuisances.
